Online Training

This online course goes beyond the minumum required by the state to satisfy the requiremnts for a CHL application. It includes a section on aspects of practical self-defense in addition to the legally required handgun safety component.

The course takes about 40 minutes to complete. There are seven sections, covering handgun safety and practical self-defense.

Following completion of the course, you will be able to download a training completion certificate backed by credentials acceptable to any Sheriff's office in Oregon for the issue of an Oregon CHL. The certificate is identical to that issued upon completion of the in-person course.

To access this course, click on the payment button above. After payment is processed (usually within seconds) you will receive an email including a URL to access the training site and credentials to login.

If no email is received after payment is processed, please check your SPAM folder, and if nothing is there, contact me for your login and password.

Note that the email is sent to the address on your PayPal account if you have one. If for some reason you no longer have access to that email account, either correct the email address on your account before paying, or contact me with the address on the account, and the address to which to send the login details.

If you don't have a PayPal account, the email will be sent to the email address that you provide when you make the payment. Please ensure that you enter the email address correctly.

Should you decide after enrolling for the online course that you would prefer the full course, full credit will be given against the price of the full course.

The course completion certificate is a PDF file. To view/print this you may need a copy of Adobe Reader. You can obtain a copy by clicking Here although most modern browsers can view/print these with no problem.

You may leave the training at any point and return later to complete the training. It will re-start at the beginning of the last section that you were working on when you left.

Once you have completed the course you can reprint your certificate at any time by logging back in and clicking the print certificate link.

Feedback

One of the drawbacks of the online course from my point of view is that I don't get to interact with the student. With face to face classes, its relatively easy to spot eyes glazing over and pick up on when explanation of some topic is not being as clear as it should be. That enables me to take corrective action and modify the course slightly to avoid the problem in future.

With the online course, there is no-such feedback available, so I rely on you, the person taking the course to let me know if you think that something is not clear, if more explanation is required, or if something you consider important is missing.
